Building the Future with BIM

GRAPHISOFT North America recently hosted the first-ever Emerging Professionals Networking Event at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU). Aside from it showing our continued commitment to supporting education with making our technology readily available, it was tremendous fun to interact with the students and staff there.

This is the second successful year of implementing an Archicad class into the FAMU curriculum. Since last year, Professor Rhonda Hammond’s Archicad & BIM Workflow Fundamentals Class has almost doubled in size with a total of 44 second year students who have completed the course. All 44 students will continue next semester with the Archicad & BIM Workflow Intermediate Class and earn a total of 13 CEU LU Credits for the year.

Chan’ta Hunter, an architecture student at FAMU, commented “I loved my experience working with Archicad in Professor Rhonda Hammond’s class. It was hands on, quicker than Revit, easy to navigate, and the 3D views come out great. Archicad compared to Revit was easier for me to complete my final project in, and with help from Professor Hammond and other classmates my final project came out successfully!”

It was also an opportunity for students to network with local Archicad users, such as Richard Crowe from Gilchrist Ross Crowe (GRC) Architects, Rodney Lewis and Ian Sommerfeldt from Architects Lewis + Whitlock, and JJ Scott from MLD Architects. During this event students got first-hand insight into the career of an architect and how technology is currently being used at architecture firms in Tallahassee.

We congratulate all the students who participated and look forward to seeing their future success!
