We asked employers what they look for when recruiting new staff.
Here’s what they told us.
In October 2021 Graphisoft invited architectural firms from across the globe to participate in a survey to help identify gaps between employer expectations and how architects are currently educated.
The 2021 Recruitment Survey revealed three insights vital to securing that dream job:
#1: Multi-disciplinary skills
39% of employers* say current job candidates lack a good balance of three skill areas that make up the BIM mindset.

#2: BIM Knowledge
66% of employers said that BIM knowledge is the most important requirement for new hires.
With such an emphasis on BIM knowledge as a requirement for landing a role within a firm, it’s surprising that employers also said that 49% of job candidates lacked proficiency in BIM.

#3: Referrals
The most effective channels to recruit recent graduates and young professionals are first and foremost referrals.
When it comes to recruiting recent graduates and young professionals, employers are turning to finding their candidates first and foremost through referrals (55%), followed closely by university networks (44%), then social media (40%), and lastly job boards (27%).
