Hear from César Frías, Founder of Morph, as he discusses his love of Archicad and how intuitive BIM helps his team to push the boundaries of innovation

Archicad is so intuitive and easy to learn that we are happy to hire people who haven’t worked with it before. For other BIM software, we demand that our recruits have previous experience, as the learning path is much longer.

OPEN BIM
Innovative design with OPEN BIM
Morph is one of the leaders in using BIM technology in Spain. As an early adopter of 3D technologies, the company’s founder, César Frías, has worked with Archicad since early on in practice, and it remains the primary design tool for the team.
Bringing together architects, landscapers, interior designers, engineers and surveyors, the team now uses a huge palette of software with OPEN BIM interoperability at its core. This includes Archicad and BIMx, as well as Solibri, Revit, Rhino, Grasshopper, Blender, Speckle, Lumion, D5, 3ds Max, V-Ray and many more.
Become a Graphisoft Certified BIM Coordinator. Manage and coordinate BIM-enabled projects, collaborate with other disciplines, and organize your team’s daily work in Archicad.

Project
A benchmark for sustainability and wellbeing
Designed by Morph, Sphere is an innovative residential complex in Sotogrande, Spain. A development of 33 three and four-bedroom properties nestled in nature, the triple-aspect homes focus on light and transparency.
The curved forms combine with natural materials and a neutral interior palette to create relaxing and light-filled spaces that aim to enhance wellbeing, seamlessly blending indoor and outdoor living.
Sphere Sotogrande aims to be BREEAM-certified for energy efficiency and sustainability and will be assessed against the WELL Building Standard for health and wellbeing.
The development was also designed using the European LEVEL(s) framework, adopting the most advanced level for the circular economy with a low environmental impact.

Design
Parametric BIM for evolutionary design
Morph aims to continually push the boundaries of design, starting from scratch each time with new ideas to find the best final solution.
For Sphere Sotogrande, the client wanted to create something very different. Originally a project with 49 apartments, Morph designed ten different concepts with parametric BIM before the team and client settled on the final design.
Morph used Rhino to model the complex geometries for Sphere, before exporting the file as an IFC to VisualARQ, an architectural plug-in for Rhino. This IFC was used to extract the quantity takeoffs and linked to the Archicad file to represent geometry in the documentation.

The possibilities of design and the solution you achieve depend on the tool you’re using. Archicad is the tool we use the most as it has a very wide range of functionality.

Communication
Bringing projects to life with BIMx
Morph uses Graphisoft’s virtual reality presentation and coordination tool BIMx as a working document to show the project to the client in meetings and to enable the client to ’walk’ around the project in their own time.
Register here to explore the BIMx model of the Sphere Sotogrande project:
Explore, present, and coordinate with BIMx! Share Your Archicad Project with BIMx is a self-paced online course on how to export your Archicad model to BIMx and how to explore the BIMx model on any device.

BIMx is a wonderful visualization solution and is an easy way to share the Archicad model with the client. The model is shared online so access is straightforward and enables us to talk about the project while virtually ’walking’ around the site.

Collaboration
BIM collaboration and coordination
Coordination of models, especially those with a complex geometry, poses a substantial challenge for architects.
The ability to collaborate and coordinate with other disciplines was essential to the Sphere project’s success and was one of the biggest challenges for the Morph team. This was solved with the help of Solibri for clash detection, coupled with the issue manager within Archicad to manage any issues.

SPHERE SOTOGRANDE, MORPH, SPAIN, MORPH.ES

Coordination with other disciplines is a must. We use Solibri to check requirements about information and to coordinate between disciplines. This helps to avoid problems in the construction phase. Meanwhile, the issue manager inside Archicad is an easy way to manage all the issues detected.
