BIM Project 2020 – Meet the winners of the Apartment Building category

First Prize:
Pedro Tavares – The “A Montanha” Building

Pedro Tavares

Learning Archicad with the best professionals was what attracted me to this competition the most. Besides that, sharing experiences with students from different parts of the world is great. Having this experience and learning at a high level will be a great fulfillment of a personal dream and will make a huge difference in my personal life.

Without a doubt, Archicad is the best software solution for architecture. It works the same way architects think, and consistently improves our projects in a fast and automatic way.

I used Archicad for the entire project. The Hotlink Modules helped me with the structure because the building is so modular and this made the work a lot easier in the end.

Archicad gives me the design freedom I need to create great and beautiful buildings.

Very interesting proposal generating an urban topography that responds to the needs to the market and the neighborhood. Very good use of the Archicad capabilities and very well understood the workflow! Congratulations!

Second Prize:
Francine Cavalheiro – The Grow Building

What attracted me to this event was having a chance to chat about Archicad 24 hours a day! There is no greater feeling than exchanging knowledge about something that I love so much. Especially if it is learning from the greatest masters of the subject. In addition, being able to exchange experiences with people from all over the world while we come together with the same goal is a unique opportunity; and also, getting to know Graphisoft’s headquarters, which has always been a dream, so it looks like this event was made for me!

The design elegantly places the residential complex at a juncture between the built and the natural environment. This entry is captivating and appealing for its use of simple, and effective structure, offering vivid, rich, airy and profound spaces that elevate the experience of living.

One of the main advantages in my point of view is the possibility of an organized workflow in addition to having greater control over the project.

The project submitted for the contest actually started with Archicad 22. During its development, the 23 version was launched so the new opening tool came in very handy due to the large number of shafts and floors. Of course, the associated modules were, as always, excellent, but in my case, due to the differences between floors, I needed more forms of control; one of these forms was the schedules, which were used to organize the project and also the flow of my ideas.

Architecture is a form of expression. It is art. We architects and designers need a work tool that encourages us to create and propose the best solutions for people. I believe Archicad is that tool, at least for me. I recommend it to everyone I know, and for those that I don’t know too, to migrate to Archicad — the gain in quality of work and quality of life is immeasurable.

Third Prize:
Alina Krits – Bioclimatic residential complex in Rostov

In April 2019, I attended a BIM education day in Moscow. There I heard speeches from winners of the competitions, and they inspired me to participate in it. Also lectures from architects, Graphisoft employees and teachers from different universities opened my eyes to all the opportunities that Archicad offers.

For me the main advantage in using Archicad is time and ease of use. You can save a lot of time with the built-in tools.

When creating a new project, I always learn about new tools in Archicad. My favourite tools are “Objects” and “Measuring” — I always use these and it helps a lot.

I would like to encourage both students and professional users to use Archicad together with Twinmotion. It creates amazing textures, light, different weather conditions and, of course, it is easy to use. It saves a lot of time. These two programs are perfect together.

This scheme is a careful orchestration of public and private spaces and asserts the notion that the spaces between the buildings are just as important as the buildings themselves. There was clearly considerable effort in articulating the massing to break down the volumes, as well as creating diverse edges and frontages to define the public realm.
