Archicad in Practice: LSI Architects

Q&A with

Daniel Pedley

Associate, LSI Architects

As we continue our Archicad in Practice series, we chat with Daniel Pedley at LSI Architects about how technology can help overcome some of the key challenges facing architects today.

What are the biggest challenges facing architects today?

We operate in an industry which offers plenty of challenges!
Volatile workloads present the biggest challenge on an ongoing basis in the construction industry.

We can’t always avoid the pressures that come with the work that we do but there are certain characteristics about the way architects work, the long hours and the having to do more for less.

Having to do more for less can add to the likelihood that a mental health issue will occur.

Therefore, as a practice we’ve worked extremely hard to raise the profile of mental health and wellbeing in the workplace.

How can technology help you to address these challenges?

Our belief is that sustained investment in technology will be at the core of a successful and productive business operating in such a challenging industry.

A continual investment in technology infrastructure will help us to be more productive and more efficient but we’ll also be able to develop and communicate our ideas in ever more engaging ways.

As technology makes the process of designing a building ever more streamlined, through the introduction of automations wherever possible, we will have more time available as designers to concentrate on aspects of the process where we can add most value.

There will be greater opportunity for further exploration at design stage and an ability to communicate our ideas in ever more engaging ways.

As clients become more engaged in the design process, this will ultimately result in buildings that better meet the needs of the people who will be using them.
