Through the 1998 GRAPHISOFT PRIZE, Graphisoft continues to explore and promote the concept of the “virtual building” in architectural design and practice. Graphisoft’s virtual building concept embodies the integration of building data through intelligent objects, powerful visualization and communication tools, and access to building information at all times. Using Archicad as a design tool and VR virtual reality (included with Archicad) as a visualization tool, the annual GRAPHISOFT PRIZE challenges students and non-students to create “virtual architecture” drawing from cultural themes as diverse as Béla Bartók’s Bluebird Castle, to Marcel Carné’s Hotel du Nord, to Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven”. This is the fifth year that the GRAPHISOFT PRIZE has rewarded architectural students and non-students for pushing the frontiers of architectural expression using CAD software.
