United States site instead?Winners of Sixth Annual International Design Competition Awarded in Paris

Graphisoft® President Gábor Bojár was pleased to announce the winners of
the sixth annual GRAPHISOFT PRIZE international design competition on
October 22 at a gala held in Paris for internationally renowned
architects and artists.
Through the Graphisoft Prize competition, Graphisoft promotes its Virtual
Building™ concept in architectural design and practice. The “virtual
building” embodies the integration of building data through intelligent
objects, powerful visualization and communication tools, and access to
building information at all times. Using Archicad as a design tool and
virtual reality (included with Archicad) as a visualization tool,
entrants are challenged to create virtual architecture, drawing from
cultural themes.
From the record number of registrations in this year’s competition, open
to both students and professionals working in architecture and related
fields, 30 submissions qualified for the final review.

The 1999 Graphisoft Prize was juried by an esteemed panel called from the
international architectural press. Jury members included Jean-Pierre
Cousin, editor of Architecture d’Aujourd’hui (France); Sarah
Amelar, senior editor at Architectural Record (U.S.); Cathy Slessor,
managing editor of The Architectural Review (GB); Christian Schittich,
editor-in-chief of Detail (Germany); Ken Aoki, senior editor at Nikkei
Architecture (Japan); with French architect Francis Soler serving as
president.
Speaking for the entire jury, Francios Soler stated, “The first two
student winners this year marked a turning point in the way that we
perceive space. Their work merges with the machine, without losing
anything of their dreams or their spirit.”
The event – coordinated by Graphisoft and Abvent S.A., Graphisoft’s
Paris-based distributor partner and developer of Artlantis Render –
coincided with the opening of “The Quill and the Mouse,” an exhibition of
the work of renowned French artist Patrice Serres that celebrates the
relationship between traditional drawing and electronic art. At the opening
ceremony, winning entries from Graphisoft Prize 1999 and past years were
displayed, both on computer and as prints, as excellent examples of
electronic art.
Press and invited guests also previewed the book Virtual Space 3:
Graphisoft Prize International CAD Competition. Released by PACE
Publishing Ltd., one of the leading publishing houses in South-East Asia,
this large-format hardcover book contains full-color renderings and
descriptions of the competition’s submissions from 1996-1998, and is
accompanied by a CD.
All entrants submitted a 3D “virtual building” file using Archicad as
well a series of virtual reality scenes and computer renderings to convey
their design intent to the jury. Images of the winning entries will be
available on Graphisoft Prize website, www.gsprize.com, by the end of October 1999. Graphisoft also plans to publish and distribute a CD-ROM catalog of
winning entries in December 1999.
Prizes awarded in the 1999 student category: one first prize of a
traveling fellowship for two plus $1000 cash and Archicad university
version; one second prize of a traveling fellowship for two plus $500
cash and Archicad university version; one third prize of a traveling
fellowship for one plus $500 cash and Archicad student version; and
honorable mentions of Archicad student version licenses.
Prizes awarded in the 1999 professional category: one first prize: $2,500
cash + $2,500 discount coupon for Archicad or any Graphisoft product, one
second prize of $1000 cash plus a $1000 discount coupon for Archicad or
any GS product; no third prize of $500 cash plus a $500 discount coupon
for Archicad or any GS product; and honorable mentions of a $100
discount coupon for Archicad or any GS product.
