Archicad Team Wins Best Project Award at “Build Live Tokyo 2009 II”

Budapest, November 2, 2009 – Team Stream, led by Shimizu Corp., has brought Graphisoft its second consecutive win at Build Live Tokyo, by capturing the Best Project award.
The competition, which was held on September 9-11, is the Japanese version of the international BIM Storm event.  Competing teams were given the task of replacing existing apartment blocks in   the Kanagawa area.   It was a close finish, with Shimizu Corp. (Archicad), Maeda Corp. (Archicad) and Taisei Corp. (Revit) competing in the «final.»  Team Stream’s strategy was to challenge BIM by using curved lines on the buildings instead of conventional vertical and horizontal lines.  Their command of BIM stunned the audience, especially given the fact that they only started working with Archicad in April of this year.  An interesting twist in the victory of Shimizu Corp. is that they used Revit Structure (while Maeda used Tekla), which clearly proves that Archicad’s “Open” strategy in integration with engineering is a perfect fit.
Among the three finalists, two teams were Archicad users, including Skunk Works, the Grand Prize winner of the previous Build Live Tokyo event held in February.  In addition to the top prizes, Team Stream and Skunk Works together received the «BIM Technology Award,» while Team 48, another Archicad team, received the «Environmental Design Award.»
The “Build Live” competition series is organized by the Japan Association of the buildingSMART™ International Alliance for Interoperability as a means to promote open interdisciplinary collaboration. The results of this most recent competition proved once again the increased recognition of Archicad among large Japanese architectural firms and construction companies as a key to improving productivity with BIM.
